DAVID MONROE SMITH, JR., 75, of Sidney, passed away Thursday, July 8, 2021 at his residence. He was born on February 15, 1946 in Greenville, Ohio, the son of the late David Monroe and Zelma Smith. On May 5, 1973 he married the former Shirley June Marlow, who preceded him in death on April 24, 2005.
David is survived by four children, Nina Byler, Shirley Ludwig, David (Stacey) Smith and Darrell (Julie) Smith, all of Sidney; seventeen grandchildren, Ashley, Amy, Ricky, Darren, Jessica, Aubrey, Josten, Michael, Jasmine, Brandon, Isack, Keirstin, Wayne, Dustin, Cody, Ashley and Christine; twenty-four great-grandchildren; one brother and four sisters. He was preceded in death by one daughter, Sharon; son-in-law, Ben Byler; granddaughter, Alexis; one brother and seven sisters.
David was a certified Briggs and Stratton, and Tecumseh small engine technician. He was very skilled mechanic and enjoyed working on mowers and car engines. He loved spending time outdoors fishing, hunting and shooting guns recreationally. David was a great storyteller and loved his family immensely. He especially enjoyed spending time with his grandchildren. He will be greatly missed.
Funeral Services will be held Wednesday, July 14, 2021 at 12:00 PM at Cromes-Edwards Funeral Home with Pastor Chad Wilson officiating. Burial will follow at Graceland Cemetery.
