DAVID LEE FIELDS, 82, of Sidney, passed away at 5:55 P.M. Monday, February 10, 2025 at Upper Valley Medical Center. He was born on March 15, 1942 in Sidney, Ohio, the son of the late Chalmer Eugene and Virginia Marie (Schiff) Fields.
On August 27, 1966 he married the former Kathie Mowrer, who survives, along with their two children, Jeff (Christine) Fields of Cumming, GA, and Julia (Bill) Huelskamp of Sidney; six grandchildren, Raine Hoying, Shelby (Kennedy) Hoying, Nicholas (Leslie) Huelskamp, Lucas Fields, Alec Fields, and Celia (Jalen) Fields; great-granddaughters, Emery and soon to be born, Adalynn; sister-in-law, Linda Weinsteger; brother-in-law, Steve (Dollie) Mowrer; cousins, Charlie (Terri) Marr, Pat Behagg, John Tennery, Dee (Carol) Tennery; and numerous nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by brothers-in-law, Larry Mowrer, and Joe Weinsteger.
David served in the United States Navy at Parris Island, SC. He graduated from OSU College of Dentistry in 1967 before starting his dental practice in Sidney, where he devoted his career until retiring in 2004. Following his retirement, he enjoyed traveling, with frequent visits to Florida, and spent cherished time camping at Camp Qtokee and fishing at Rice Lake in Canada. David was also passionate about wood carving, particularly creating duck decoys, and earned several ribbons at carving competitions. A lover of sports, he enjoyed golfing, reading, following NASCAR, and cheering for the Ohio State Buckeyes football team. He was especially overjoyed when his beloved Buckeyes won the National Championship, a victory that was particularly meaningful to him as it mirrored their first National Championship in the year of his birth. Above all, David treasured the time spent with his family, which remained his greatest joy.
David was a lifelong member of St. John's Lutheran Church, where a funeral service will be held on Friday, February 14, 2025 at 10:30 A.M. with Rev. Steve Edmiston officiating. Burial will follow at Pearl Cemetery. Visitation will be on Thursday from 4 to 7 P.M. at Cromes-Edwards Funeral Home, and at the church on Friday from 9:30 A.M. until the time of service.
