CYNTHIA ANN MCRILL, 86, of Sidney, OH, passed away Friday, April 10, 2026, at 7:43 AM at Lima Memorial Hospital. She was born on September 18, 1939, in Findlay, Ohio, the daughter of the late Neil Eugene Firestone and Miriam (Jackson) Coddington. On August 4, 1957, she married Arlen Dwight McRill, who preceded her in death on September 20, 1988.
Cynthia is survived by three children: Michael (Karen) McRill of Arcanum, OH; Andrew McRill of Athens, OH; and Monica (Christopher) Davis of Piqua, OH; three grandchildren: Jasmine (Kalen) Butcher, Christopher Davis Jr., and Heidi McRill; one great-grandson, Angelo Butcher; and two stepsisters: Susan Jane Arterburn of Batavia, IL, and Mary Kay Eklund of Payson, AZ. She was preceded in death by her brother, Doug Firestone; grandson, Matthew McRill; and stepfather, John Coddington.
Cynthia was a graduate of Findlay High School, Class of 1957. She earned her bachelor’s degree in education from Miami University, Oxford, and furthered her education by obtaining her master’s degree in School Administration from the University of Dayton. She spent her career as a teacher for Sidney City Schools and later became the principal of Fairlawn Elementary. After her career in education, she became Vice President of Mutual Federal Savings Bank in Sidney.
Cynthia shared her strong faith and devotion in both the church and community through her many talents. She was a 69-year member of Sidney First Methodist Church, where she served as treasurer and lifted her beautiful voice in the church choir and at the Senior Center. She also valued her involvement with Altrusa International and her time in Bible study groups, where she built lasting friendships and strengthened her faith.
Known for her generous heart and unconditional love, she gave so much of herself to others. She was strong, independent, and deeply caring—qualities that will be cherished by all who knew her. Above all, she treasured time spent with her family. She found her greatest happiness in celebrating birthdays, holidays, and the traditions that brought everyone together—creating memories filled with love, laughter, and connection. Her legacy is one of unwavering faith, kindness, and the love she shared so generously with her family and friends.
A Memorial Service will be held Sunday, April 19, 2026, at 3:00 PM at Sidney First Methodist Church, with Dr. Chris Heckaman officiating. The family will receive friends on Sunday from 2:00 PM until the time of the service. Cynthia’s final place of rest will be at Cedar Point Cemetery in Pasco at a later date.
