BERNARD "BERNIE" D. COTTERMAN, 96, of Sidney passed away Saturday, October 2, 2021 at 8:14 PM at the Landings of Sidney. He was born on March 12, 1925 in Sidney, Ohio, the son of the late Frank and Dorothy (Eichenberg) Cotterman. On Easter Sunday April 21, 1946, Bernie married the former Fae Norlene Jones in Archer City, Texas. They have been married for over 75 years.
Along with his wife Fae, Bernie is survived by two children, Aleta (Richard) Nisonger and Steven Cotterman; six grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren and brother, Raymond Cotterman of North Carolina. Bernie was preceded in death by his brother Robert Cotterman who was killed during the battle for Kasserine pass in Tunisia during World War II, his sister Mildred Lehmann and his brother Harley (Marge) Cotterman.
Bernie served in the Army Air Corp from 1943 to 1946 as a radio repairman at Andrews Field, Washington D.C. and at other bases in the United States. He retired from Dayton Power and Light in 1982 as the Sidney substation operator. Bernie's hobbies included gardening, fishing, rabbit and squirrel hunting with his dog. He enjoyed dancing, playing cards with friends, traveling all over the United States with his wife and relaxing at the casino. Bernie was a member of First Baptist Church.
Funeral Services will be held Wednesday October 6, 2021 at 12 PM at Cromes-Edwards Funeral Home 302 S. Main Ave Sidney with Pastor John Young officiating. Burial will follow at Graceland Cemetery in Sidney, Ohio. Friends may visit from 10:30 AM up until the time of service at the funeral home.
