Barry Wayne Knox

BARRY WAYNE KNOX, 86, of Sidney, passed away at 11:22 A.M. Tuesday, September 23, 2025 at Lima Memorial Hospital. He was born on February 12, 1939 in Sidney, Ohio, the son of the late Edwin and Leah (VanAlstine) Knox.

On October 8, 1960, he married the former Shirley Ann Hendricks at St. Paul’s United Church of Christ, where they remained members throughout their lives. Barry and Shirley shared a rare bond, both born on the same day, in the same year, in the same city of Sidney. They fell in love in high school and remained devoted to one another for nearly 65 years of marriage. Shirley survives, along with their two daughters, Renee (Michael) Phillips of Sidney, and Michelle (Don) Knox-Rolley of Walnut Cove, NC; two grandchildren, Gabriel Phillips of Sidney and Alexis (Logan) Phillips-Blazier of Maplewood, MN; and two siblings, Karen (Daniel) Graham of Greenville, SC, and Edwin Knox of Lima, OH.

Barry spent his career in sales and was a devoted fan of the Ohio State Buckeyes and Cincinnati Reds. He and Shirley loved traveling across the country, often joined by their children, and especially cherished their many trips to Williamsburg, VA, where they formed lasting friendships. Along with those friends in Williamsburg, Barry and Shirley also enjoyed traveling with their close friends, the Wallins, to the beautiful lakes of Minnesota.

Family was at the center of Barry’s life. He was a constant source of encouragement to his daughters and later to his grandchildren, faithfully attending their sporting events and activities. He will be remembered as a loving husband, father, grandfather, and friend, who was deeply loved and will be dearly missed.

Funeral services will be held on Thursday, October 2, 2025 at 12 P.M. at Cromes-Edwards Funeral Home with Rev. James Oates officiating. Burial will follow at Graceland Cemetery. Visitation will be on Thursday from 10 A.M. until the time of service. Memorial contributions may be made to St. Paul’s United Church of Christ in Barry’s memory.
