Alona Margaret Lyke (nee Byrd), age 78, passed away peacefully on May 3, 2025, in Huntsville, Alabama. Born on October 14, 1946, in Bellefontaine, Ohio. Alona lived a life filled with faith, creativity, and devotion to her family and church.
Alona was the beloved wife of John Lyke and devoted mother to her daughter Kathy Dennison and son-in-law Shawn. She cherished her role as Grandmother to Michael and Clara, finding immense joy in their presence. Alona also shared a close bond with her sister Joyce Hubble and held dear many nieces and nephews who brought warmth and laughter to her life. She was preceded by her parents, Orrie and Margaret Byrd, as well as her brothers Dennis and Terry Byrd.
A women of many talents and passions, Alona found joy in the simple pleasures of life. She had a deep love for fishing—especially the cherished family trips to Canada that became treasured traditions. Her green thumb was evident in the vibrant gardens she tended with care, while her artistic spirit shone through in her singing voice and expressive oil paintings. Whether drawing or painting, she poured her heart into every brushstroke.
Alona’s love for music extended beyond personal enjoyment; she found great fulfillment singing praises to God. Her faith was central to her life. During her lifetime, she volunteered in many roles within the church community and was known for lifting spirits through song during worship services. Her dedication to serving others reflected a profound love for both God and people.
Traveling brought Alona great happiness as she explored new places with curiosity and delight. Yet no matter where she went, she carried with her an infectious sense of humor that brightened every room. Her laughter was genuine and frequent—a gift to all who knew her.

A funeral service will be held on Friday, May 9, 2025 at 12 P.M. at Northtowne Church of God in Sidney, Ohio with Pastor Carl McNeill officiating. Burial will follow at Cedar Point Cemetery. Visitation will be at the church from 10 A.M. until the time of service. Arrangements are in the care of Cromes-Edwards Funeral Home. A celebration of life will also be held with her Huntsville church family and friends at a later date.
