Almeda Wooddell Obituary

Almeda “Jean” Kauffman Wooddell passed away on Monday July 14, 2025 at the Hospice of Miami County facility in Troy, OH.  She was born in Sidney, OH July 15, 1942 to Clarence “Jim” and Virginia “Maxine” Kauffman

Jean married Harvey Joseph Wooddell on January 6, 1967 who preceded her in death on August 21, 2023.  They enjoyed 56 years of marriage together.

She is survived by her loving family children Sandi (Andy) Freytag and Daniel Wooddell, grandchildren Brittany Niswonger, Zachary (Jesse) Freytag, Dylan Wooddell, and Alexandra (fiancé, Nolan Holthaus) Freytag, great grandchildren Lillian Niswonger, Kevin Niswonger, Kyle Niswonger, and Aria Freytag and numerous nieces, nephews, a brother, brothers-in-law and a sister-in-law.

Jean graduated from Sidney High School Class of 1960. She worked at the Public Library, HardenBrook Ford in Piqua, OH, JoAnn Fabric, and Sidney City Schools. She was a member of the Rainbow Girls Chapter 57 where she served as Worthy Advisor and Grand Lecturer of District 9.  She was also a member of the former Parkwood Grange and a 60+ year member of the Pleiades 298 Order of Eastern Star.

After retiring she enjoyed reading and sharing her pop-up books with her grandchildren and great grandchildren’s classes at Sidney City Schools, Hardin Houston Schools and Fairlawn Schools.  Her hope was that she touched just one child when she shared her books.

She loved spending time with her family, whether it was camping or hunting eggs at Easter.  She and Harv enjoyed touring with their 5th wheel, visiting many of the National Parks and Alaska.  They met some very special people on their tours.  They were able to spend 13 years in Florida during the winter months until health issues prevented them from continuing.  While in Florida, they met numerous special friends, two of them are still close friends today.

She also enjoyed collecting Santas, having over 400 different ones.  She always purchased one on their travels’ having several from North Pole, Alaska and many that she received from friends and family.  She loved displaying them during the holidays.  She loved collecting pewter items, Raggedy Ann and Andy dolls and rocks from all over the United States.

She will be sadly missed by her family.
