STANLEY V. STAYTON, 64, died Friday, November 9, 2018 at his home. A native and life-long resident of Sidney, he graduated from Sidney High School in the class of 1972 and received a Bachelor's degree from the Ohio State University in 1976. After a brief and unsatisfying experiment in elementary education, he realized that his calling was outdoors and spent the rest of his career in in construction, working for Milligan Construction Company
and the City of Sidney before retiring a few years ago.
His acquaintances will remember him as a raconteur and a character, as well as a devoted supporter and friend. His family was central to his life. He was in equal parts mystified and proud of his son's career as an operatic tenor and his success in that field. His own tastes were simpler, running to the Beatles and Andy Griffith, but he had an open mind. In the words of his favorite writer, Kurt Vonnegut, "...I want you to please notice when you are happy and exclaim or murmur or think 'if this isn't nice, I don't know what is.'"
Stanley was the son of Jack and Phoebe (Turner) Stayton of Sidney, who survive him. In addition, he is survived by his son Taylor Stayton (and his wife Katrinka) of Omaha, Nebraska, and a brother, Kevin Stayton, of Brooklyn, New York.
A Memorial Service will be held Thursday, November 15, 2018 at 12 PM at Cromes-Edwards Funeral Home, 302 S. Main Ave, Sidney, with Dan Gutman officiating. The family will receive friends on Thursday from 11 AM until the hour of service.
