Roy Asbury, Jr.

ROY ASBURY, JR., 87, of Sidney, passed away at 1:17 PM Saturday, October 7, 2017 at Upper Valley Medical Center.  He was born on July 28, 1930 in Yankee Hill, Pike County Ohio, the son of the late Roy Sr. and Delpha (Williams) Asbury.  His wife of 65 years, Carol Jean (Couchot) Asbury preceded him in death on January 12, 2015.

Roy is survived by his very special girlfriend, Ethel Lansing; two daughters, Victoria Frohna and fiancé Joe Robinson, Sherri Ward and husband Tom, both of Sidney; four grandchildren, Jason Frohna and wife April, Aaron Frohna and fiancé Laura Elifritz, both of Sidney, April Ward de Abarca and husband Jonathan of Costa Rica, and Joshua Ward and wife Kelli of Sidney; great-grandchildren, Erik Reed, Zachary, Alexander and Cecilee Frohna, Savanna Ward, Summer, Elijah, and Grace Abarca Ward.  He was preceded in death by one sister, Betty Ewing.

Roy worked for and retired from Stolle Corporation as an inventive, skilled tool and die maker.  He was also a part-time farmer.  Roy was active in bowling throughout his life for numerous teams and leagues.  He was a trained pilot and sold his personal plane to one of the Blue Angels.  In his younger years, he enjoyed drag racing, but remained a life long motorcyclist and classic car enthusiast.  Roy also enjoyed camping out and traveling.  He was an avid card player, a great story teller, and loyal Cincinnati Reds and NASCAR fan.  Roy found the most joy in his family.  He was a dedicated husband, a loving father, grandfather, and great-grandfather, always prioritizing his schedule to never miss a family sporting event or activity.  He was a strong father figure, even to his grandchildren, especially Jason and Aaron.  They looked to him for accountability, never wanting to disappoint him, and were encouraged by him to improve themselves continually.  Roy was greatly loved and will be missed by his family, friends, and church family.  

Funeral Services will be held Monday, October 16, 2017 at 10:00 AM at Russell Road Church with Pastor Fred Gillenwater officiating.  Burial will follow at Cedar Point Cemetery.  The family will receive friends on Sunday from 1:00-5:00 PM at Cromes-Edwards Funeral Home, 302 S. Main Ave.  In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Russell Road Church "Capital Campaign," or to Miami County Hospice in Roy's memory.  Condolences may be expressed to the Asbury family at the funeral home's website, www.cromesfh.com
