MARY L. CHRISTMAN, 87, of Sidney, passed away at 4:30 AM Sunday, December 30, 2018 at Fair Haven County Home. She was born on January 25, 1931 in Columbus, Ohio, the daughter of the late David and Gladys (Pickett) Innes.
After graduating from high school in Perrysburg, she attended Moravian College in Bethlehem, Penn. In August of 1952 she married John C. Christman of Perrysburg, who preceded her in death on April 19, 1999. They moved to Shelby County in 1960.
Mary is survived by two sons, John (Lisa) Christman of Sidney, and Paul Christman of Norman, OK; two granddaughters, Jennifer LaFleur and Elizabeth Dorsey; and two nephews, Michael and Brian Brown. She was preceded in death by two sisters, Joyce Innes and Janet Brown.
In the late 1950s, Mrs. Christman began working in the medical profession. She was a medical technologist at Piqua Memorial and Wilson Memorial Hospitals, retiring from the latter as supervisor of histology and hematology in 1996.
Mary taught swimming for the Red Cross at the municipal pool and later volunteered at the YMCA where she was a certified water exercise instructor by the Arthritis Foundation. She was also a member of the First United Methodist Church.
In her free time she enjoyed needlepoint, cross stitching, and knitting. Mary was a great storyteller and had a tremendous love for cats, having had many throughout her lifetime.
