Marjorie "Ruth" Hughes

MARJORIE "RUTH" HUGHES 99 of Lane Park Sidney passed away of natural causes March 30, 2018 at 6:34 PM at Lane Park Senior Assisted Living Center. She was born May 25th 1918 to the late Homer W. and Stella (Long) Schamp. On November 14th 1946 she married Zina Kirkwood Hughes (Kirk) who preceded her in death January 25th 1985.

Ruth is survived by her two children, son Thomas and wife Dottie Hughes of Gorham, ME. and daughter, Barbara and husband Norbert Voisard of Sidney. Ruth is also survived by 8 grandchildren, Kathy Hughes, Karen Jabar, Thomas Hughes Jr., Kris Lock, David Coy, Deborah Reck, Daniel Coy, and Dianah Smith, 18 great-grandchildren, and eight great-great-grandchildren. Ruth is also survived by her brother James A. Schamp. She was preceded in death by her two sisters Margaret Tallman, Esther Friend, and a brother Dr. Homer W. Schamp Jr. Also deceased is a great-granddaughter Kimberly Diane Whittenberger.

Ruth graduated from Sidney High School in 1936. After graduation she worked retail in several stores in downtown Sidney before going to work for the water department for the City of Sidney in 1958, and retired in 1978. She and her husband enjoyed family first and foremost, camping, travel, water skiing, painting, and her needle work. She was a long standing member of The First Church of Christ.

In keeping with Ruth's wishes, her body will be cremated. A Private Graveside Service will be held at Graceland Cemetery in Sidney. Arrangements are in the care of Cromes-Edwards Funeral Home.
