Earnest Virgil Smith

EARNEST VIRGIL SMITH, 92, of Bronson, FL passed away Tuesday, June 19, 2018 at Haven-E.T. York Care Center in Gainesville, FL. Earnest was born on May 15, 1926 in McCreary County, Kentucky, the son of the late Harve and Rachel (Wilson) Smith. On November 17, 1945, Earnest married the former Gloria Strunk, who preceded him in death October 12, 2013.

He is survived by six children, Ron (Sharon) Smith of Suncity West, AZ,  Rita Wheat of Botkins, Reva (Scott) Leffler of Bronson, FL, Diane Godsey of West Chester, Robert (Linda) Smith and Ruth Phillips both of Anna; twenty-one grandchildren; forty-two great-grandchildren and two great-great-grandchildren. Earnest was preceded in death by one son, Randall Smith; one daughter, Sandra Smith; three brothers, Hubert, Buddy and Sonny Smith; two grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.

Mr. Smith retired from Copeland Corporation working for over 40 years as a Fork Lift Operator. He was a past member of the Sidney Baptist Church. Earnest was a people person, he never knew a stranger. He was a very giving person and loved to help people. Earnest worked as a volunteer for the Children's Table for many years in Florida. He loved going to flea markets. He would sell watermelons and bring some back to family when he would visit. Earnest will be missed by many nieces, nephews, friends in his Florida community and his best friend, his dog Mickey.  

Funeral Services will be held on Tuesday June 26, 2018 at 10:30 AM at Cromes-Edwards Funeral Home 302 S. Main Ave Sidney with Pastor John Butts officiating. Burial will follow at Pearl Cemetery in Swanders, Ohio. Friends may call Monday June 25, 2018 from 4 PM to 7 PM at the funeral home.
