DOROTHY L. CLAYTON, age 80 of Quincy, passed away peacefully with family by her bedside, Monday, October 15, 2018 at 2:24 PM at Hospice of Miami County. She was born on November 9, 1937 in Auglaize County, Ohio, the daughter of the late Thomas and Louella (O'Brien) Harpest. On February 23, 1957 she married Kenneth Lloyd Clayton who preceded her in death September 8, 2012.
Dorothy is survived by two children, Matt (Darlene) Clayton, and Lyra Williams both of Sidney, two sisters, Opal I. (Robert Sr.) Dague of Lewistown, and Helen B. (Richard) Taylor of Lakeview, seven grandchildren, Christine Clayton, Sarah (Tristan) Divens, Belinda (Zac) Fonner, Michelle (Ty) Argo, Brandy (Robert) Luckey, Amanda (Brian) Chin, and Ashtin (Jon Satterwhite) Boroff, and 12 great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by one daughter, Julie D. Schaub, two sisters, Evelyn Helzer and Ruth Dague, and one brother, Gene Harpest.
Mrs. Clayton was a homemaker for many years, and later worked for Copeland Corporation. After 19 years at Copeland she became the co-owner/operator of Thompson's Flower Shop in Jackson Center.
Dorothy was an avid gardener and was known for her cooking, especially her homemade biscuits, pies and cinnamon rolls. She was a humble woman with an un-dying love for her Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ. She cherished her family, neighbors, friends and little dog, Cassie, and loved them unconditionally.
Funeral Services will be held Friday, October 19, 2018 at 10:30 AM at Cromes-Edwards Funeral Home, 302 S. Main Ave, Sidney, with Pastor Steve Clayton officiating. Burial will follow at Glen Cemetery in Port Jefferson. The family will receive friends on Thursday from 4 to 7 PM.
