Janet A. Hoying

JANET A. HOYING, 86, of Sidney passed away Wednesday, March 20, 2024 at 6:15 PM at Ohio Living Dorothy Love. She was born on October 24, 1937 in Mercer County, Ohio, the daughter of the late John and Clementine (Boeke) Schmidt.

She is survived by three children, David Magoteaux, Steven Magoteaux and Kathleen (Aaron) Locker; six grandchildren, Alex Locker, Megan (Grant) Kaufman, Emma Locker, Nicholas Magoteaux, Michele (Gage) Gibbs and Rickey Magoteaux; brother, Gerald (Linda) Schmidt, two sisters-in-law, Joyce Schmidt and Henrietta Hoying and brother-in-law and sister-in-law, Denny and Marilyn Ross. She was preceded in death by first husband Wilferd “Bill” Magoteaux in 1979 and second husband Wilfred “Will” Hoying in 1991. Also, one son, brother, Kenneth Schmidt, sister and brother-in-law, Karen and Ralph Balster, brother-in-law and sister-in-law, Harold and Delores Bensman, brother-in-law and sister-in-law, Bernald and Rita Hoying and brother-in-law, Wilbur Hoying.

Janet graduated from Anna High School and Good Samarian Hospital School of Nursing. She worked at Wilson Memorial Hospital and Catholic Social Services (PASSPORT) in Sidney. After retiring from nursing, Janet worked at Tender Hearts Child Care in Sidney. Janet was a member of the Senior Citizen Center in Sidney.  She also was a member of Sacred Heart of Jesus Catholic Church in McCartyville in which she was a volunteer at the church and member of the Altar Rosary Sodality.

A Memorial Mass will be held Wednesday March 27, 2024 at 10:30 AM at Sacred Heart of Jesus Catholic Church with Father Steve Mondiek officiating. Burial will follow at Sacred Heart of Jesus Catholic Church Cemetery in McCartyville, Ohio. Friends may visit the church from 9:30 AM until the time of service. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Ohio Hospice of Miami County in Janet’s memory. Condolences may be expressed to the Hoying family at our website, www.cromesfh.com
