Thomas Richard Walklet

THOMAS RICHARD "DICK" WALKLET, 89, of Huber Heights, formerly of Sidney, passed away Friday, May 5, 2017 at Bay Front Medical Center in St. Petersburg, FL.  He was born on March 2, 1928 in Dayton, Ohio, the son of the late Ellwood and Helen (Snyder) Walklet.  On April 19, 1952 he married Zenith F. Schmitz, who preceded him in death on April 20, 2014.

Dick is survived by three children, John T. Walklet of Ashville, NC, Diana L. Walklet of Huber Heights, and Joyce A. Walklet of Cincinnati; three grandchildren, Jared, Shannon and Erin Walklet; and one sister, Barbara Gobel of Arizona.  He was preceded in death by one brother, Donald Walklet; and two sisters, Eileen Robinson and Patricia Fogel. 

Mr. Walklet was a veteran of the United States Army, serving during WWII.  He was retired from Schindler Elevator Corporation where he worked for many years as an industrial engineer.  Dick's hobbies included sketching, painting, woodworking, building models and photography.  He also enjoyed boating and fishing.  During his retirement years he enjoyed the time he spent with his wife, traveling.  He was a dedicated and loving husband, father and grandfather. 

Dick was a long-time member of St. John's Lutheran Church, where a Memorial Service will be held on Sunday, June 4, 2017 at 2:00 PM, with Rev. Jonathan W. Schriber officiating.  Burial with military honors will be held at Dayton Memorial Park Cemetery on Monday, June 5, 2017 at 10:00 AM.  The family will receive friends on Sunday, from 1:00 PM until the time of service at the church.  Arrangements are in the care of Cromes-Edwards Funeral Home, 302 S.
