Richard Steenrod

RICHARD "DICK" F. STEENROD, 92, of North Port, Florida, passed away on Wednesday November 8, 2017 at his residence. He was born on June 15, 1925, in Maplewood, Ohio, the son of the late Frank and Estella (Gerdes) Steenrod.   

He was preceded in death by his wife of 59 years, Alice M. (Armstrong) Steenrod, as well as four brothers and two sisters.

Dick is survived by his wife of 10 years, Ruth E. (Radke) Steenrod of North Port, Florida.  Other survivors include a sister, Mary McGowan, of Sidney; two sons, Michael of Venice, Florida, and Rick (Sarah) of Sidney, and a daughter, Jill (Matt) Peters, of Hilliard, Ohio.  Also surviving are two grandchildren, Katie (Jesse) Maust of Pigeon, Michigan and Blake Steenrod of Sidney.        

In 1983 Dick retired from Steenrod, Inc., which he founded.  During his years working in the plumbing, air conditioning and building trades, Dick's company built and remodeled homes, apartments, and condominiums, which included the development of Northwood Village in Sidney.  As a real estate broker, he sold real estate and operated rental properties. 

Dick was a veteran of the Army Air Corps. He led or participated in a variety of local organizations, boards and commissions, sharing his energy and drive. Once retired in Florida, he enjoyed woodworking, boating, fishing and traveling, often in their motor home. He was a former member of the First United Methodist Church in Sidney and was a founding member of the Gulf Cove Methodist Church in Port Charlotte, where he often volunteered his time and skills.

Funeral Services will be held at 2:30 pm on Monday, November 20, 2017 at Cromes-Edwards Funeral Home 302 S. Main Ave. Sidney with Rev. Diana Circelli officiating. Friends may call from 1:30 pm until hour of service. Burial will follow at Cedar Point Cemetery.
