Myron Douglas Smith

MYRON DOUGLAS SMITH, 71, of West Carrollton formerly of Sidney passed away Saturday, October 7, 2017 at 6:30 PM at Kettering Medical Center in Dayton. He was born on August 6, 1946 in Perm, Minnesota, the son of the late Ward and Janice (Weber) Miner. On July 14, 2012, Myron married the former Barbara Shepherd, who survives.

He is survived by seven children, Daniel (Debbie) Girod, Christopher (Douglas) Smith, Tracey ( Craig) Francis and Kenneth (Jean) Girod Sr. all of Sidney, David Girod of Pleasant Hill, Edwin Girod and partner Daniel Grondahl of Phoenix, AZ, and Andy (Jessica) Shepherd of Miamisburg, OH; grandchildren, twenty-two; great-grandchildren, twenty-nine; one sister, Carmen Mulligan of Florida. Myron was preceded in death by wife, Sandra Smith, daughter, Paula Jean Smith, and granddaughter, Katie Jean Girod.

Mr. Smith was employed by City of Sidney as a Firefighter for 16 years and prior to his fire service he served in the United States Navy from 1967- 1973. He belonged to the West Carrollton VFW Post # 3438 and Miamisburg Moose Lodge # 1645. Myron obtained an Associate Degree in Fire Science Technology. He also was a contractor and built many homes in Shelby County  He loved being in the outdoors spending time with his family doing all activities, such as hunting, fishing, camping and cooking.

Funeral Services will be held Thursday, October 12, 2017 at 10:00 AM at Cromes-Edwards Funeral Home, 302 S. Main Ave., Sidney with Pastor Jim Oats and Pastor David Schooler officiating.  Burial will follow with military honors at Cedar Point Cemetery in Pasco, Ohio.  Friends may call Wednesday, October 11, 2017 from 4 PM-7 PM at Cromes-Edwards Funeral Home. In lieu of flowers, the family request Memorial Contributions be made to either the National Kidney Foundation or donor's choice of contribution in Myron's name.
