Mellie (McCracken) Jelley

February 13, 1927 ~ October 4, 2017 (age 90) 90 Years Old

MELLIE (MCCRACKEN) JELLEY, 90, went home to her wonderful Lord and Savior Jesus Christ on October 4, 2017. She was born on February 13, 1927 in her Orange Township farm home, the daughter of the late Henry and Blanche (Caven) McCracken.

She felt greatly blessed when God gave her four wonderful children, daughters Kathleen ( David PhD) Hawkins of East Lansing, MI, and Carolyn Wycuff of Columbus, and twin sons Douglas (Becky) Jelley of Ft. Loramie and David (Kathy) Jelley of Georgetown, OH; ten grandchildren, Lisa (Dan PhD) Moser, Jennifer Hawkins DO, David (Linda) Wycuff, Jeffrey Wycuff,  Shane (Regina) Meeker, Kevin (Alison) Meeker, Brian (Courtney) Jelley, Sarah (Michael) Barno, Blake and Amanda Jelley; thirteen great-grandchildren, Justin, Ryan, and Allison Moser, Zachary and Megan Wycuff, Calvin, Spencer, Ian, Levi and Clayton Meeker, Eliza May Jelley and Audrey and Paige Barno; one brother, George McCracken of Tipp City. Preceding her in death is one brother, James McCracken, four sister-in-law's Martha, Lois, Mary and Jeanne McCracken, and one son-in-law, Charles Wycuff.

Mellie was a 1944 graduate of Sidney High School. After graduation she was married and loved to work on the farm with her family in the fields and raised cattle. When the children were in school, she worked in sales at Montgomery Ward and Uhlmans. Later on she worked at doctors Kiracofe & Beigel as a receptionist for over ten years.  After her employment with Kiracofe & Beigel, Mellie took care of her parents and others. She volunteered at Dorothy Love and then worked with Home Health Care in Miami & Shelby Counties in private homes. She loved working for the elderly.

She loved the Lord with passion and was an active member of Oran Christian Church helping when able for over 65 years. She taught several Sunday school classes, sang in the choir, served as a church officer and as a member of the Women's group. She was thrilled to take part in a Billy Graham Crusade. Mellie enjoyed hearing her church choir and gospel music. She appreciated all the support and prayers from family and friends and the care from the nurses and aids at Lane Park during her illness.

Funeral Services will be held Tuesday October 10, 2017 at 11am at Oran Christian Church with Rev. Dale Ritts presiding. Interment will follow at Fletcher Cemetery. Friends may call at the church from 10 am up until the time of the service. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Oran Christian Church or Gideon's Bibles.
