After her employment with Kiracofe & Beigel, Mellie took care of her parents and others. She volunteered at Dorothy Love and then worked with Home Health Care in Miami & Shelby Counties in private homes. She loved working for the elderly.

Mellie enjoyed hearing her church choir and gospel music. She appreciated all the support and prayers from family and friends and the care from the nurses and aids at Lane Park during her illness.
