Martha Jean Shatto

MARTHA JEAN SHATTO, 86, of Sidney passed away at 12:43 PM Tuesday, April 3, 2018 at her residence.  She was born on July 24, 1931 in Shelby County, Ohio, the daughter of the late Silas and Molly (Metz) Hulsmeyer.  On July 27, 1950 she married Donald Shatto, who preceded her in death on November 27, 2017.

Martha is survived by her son, Steven (Wendy) Shatto of Sidney; four grandchildren, Sarah Coyer and fiancé Todd Scherer, Ian (Avriel) Shatto, J. Blaine (Melissa) Helmlinger, and Michael Coyer; six great-grandchildren, Aubrie and Kyrsten Coyer, Bryce Scherer, Evelyn and Eleanor Shatto, and Megan Helmlinger; four siblings, Robert (Joanna) Hulsmeyer, Tom (Carol) Hulsmeyer, Donna (Jim) Cowperthwaite, Betty (Chuck) Cartwright; and sister-in-law, Loretta Stockstill.  She was preceded in death by two brothers, Lester and William Hulsmeyer; and two sisters, Eva Arnett and Thelma Thompson. 

Martha was a 1949 graduate of Anna High School.  She was retired from the former Copeland Corporation.  Martha was an avid gardener.  She loved baking for her family and friends, enjoyed attending the Sidney Farmers Market each Saturday and was a long-time member of St. Paul's United Church of Christ.  Martha was a loving wife, mother and grandmother.  She was called "aunt" by many loved ones who claimed her as their own family and was often referred to by her great-grandchildren as "grandma at the golf course."  Martha will be dearly missed by her family, church family and friends.

Funeral Services will be held Tuesday, April 10, 2018 at 12:00 PM at Cromes-Edwards Funeral Home, 302 S. Main Ave., with Pastor James Oates officiating.  Committal will follow at Graceland Cemetery.  The family will receive friends at the funeral home on Tuesday from 10:00 AM until the time of service.  Memorial contributions may be made to St. Paul's United Church of Christ in Martha's memory.  Condolences may be expressed to the Shatto family at our website, www.cromesfh.com
