Kenneth Carl Dorsey

KENNETH CARL DORSEY, 82, of Port Jefferson, passed away at 4:45 PM Monday, November 27, 2017 at Lima Memorial Hospital.  He was born on February 17, 1935, in New Philadelphia, Ohio, the son of the late Kenneth and Evelyn (Freed) Dorsey.  On February 17, 1955 he married Janet Lee Freistuhler, who preceded him in death on September 28, 2014.

Kenneth is survived by seven children, Marlene (Bob) Berryman of Sidney, Tim Dorsey of Port Jefferson, Lisa (John) Christman of Sidney, Susie McMaster, Mike Dorsey, Paula (Steve) Butterfield, all three of Port Jefferson, and Jenny (Phil) Larger of Sidney; fourteen grandchildren, Rob and Ben Berryman, Annie Bennett, Theresa Snider, Chris Macias, Terri Jo Moses, Elizabeth Dorsey, Emiley, Nick and Jenna McMaster, Dusty and Tori Butterfield, and Katie and Alex Larger; sixteen great-grandchildren; two great-great-grandchildren; one brother, James Dorsey and two sisters, Susie Mazula and Patty (Jerry) Dotts.  He was preceded in death by brother, Gene Dorsey, sister, Rita Thorn, and son-in-law, Jeff McMaster. 

Kenneth worked as a field supervisor for Western Union, Chicago Illinois, retiring in 1985.  After retirement, he served as a security guard for more than 20 years.  He was also the owner and operator of the former Vi's Greenhouse in Port Jefferson that he ran with his wife, Janet.  His greatest joy was his family, hosting family get-togethers and movie night once a week.  He also enjoyed playing poker and euchre with his friends and family.  He will be dearly missed.
