John Witer Obituary

John F. Witer, 81, of Newberry, Michigan, died Monday afternoon April 2, 2018 at his residence.

Born December 26, 1936 in Billings Township, son of the late John and Blanche (White) Witer, John was a graduate of Beaverton High School. John continued his education at Northern Michigan University in Marquette where he was a member of the N.M.U. football team and received his Bachelor's Degree in Education.

On February 27, 1960, he married the former Wealtha MacDonald in Midland. He started his employment at Helfrechts Machine Company in Saginaw until he was drafted into the United States Army. John served until his honorable discharge on January 22, 1964 attaining the rank of fourth grade specialist. Following his honorable discharge, he continued his employment at Helfrechts and later at Saginaw Steering Gear as a tool and die maker until his retirement in May of 1999.

John and his wife resided in Gladwin for over 25 years and, following his retirement, moved to Newberry in 1999. John was a member of St. Gregory's Catholic Church in Newberry and enjoyed hunting and fishing.

In addition to his parents, John is preceded in death by his sister Marie Pitt.

Survivors include his loving wife, Wealtha, of Newberry; children Karen Witer of Mt. Pleasant and Anthony (Jennifer) Witer of Anna, Ohio; grandchildren Marie (Riley) Berning, Jessica Witer, Allison Witer, Elizabeth Witer and Faith Witer; great-grandson John Berning; sister Kathleen (Edward) Wejsa of Essexville.

Friends may call at the Beaulieu Funeral Home in Newberry on Thursday April 5, 2018 from 4:00 pm to 6:00 pm. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Friday April 6, 2018 at 11:00 am at St. Gregory's Catholic Church with Fr. Marty Flynn officiating. Rite of Committal will take place at Sacred Heart of Jesus Parish Cemetery in McCartyville, Ohio with the assistance of Cromes-Edwards Funeral Home.
