James R. Stewart

November 2, 1943 ~ December 5, 2017 (age 74) 74 Years Old

JAMES (JIM) R. STEWART passed away at home on December 5th, 2017 surrounded by his loving family.  He was born on November 2nd, 1943 in Sidney, Ohio.  He is survived by his wife and best friend, Judi, with whom he had fifty-five wonderful and adventurous years of marriage.  They began their lives together as high school sweethearts, got married, and made a beautiful life together. He leaves behind his four daughters and their families who will miss him dearly: Julie, Matt, Drew, Maria, Sampson, Noah, and Evan Goffena & friend Morgan Headings of Sidney, Ohio; Sandi, Randy, Allie, Hannah, and Katie Whitaker of Charlotte, North Carolina; Stacie, Matt, Luke, and Seth Martin of Dublin, Ohio; Amy and Jeff Powers of Scottsdale, Arizona. He is also survived by his sister, Sue (Philip and family) Spangler of Sidney, Ohio and brother, Scott (Linda) Stewart of San Antonio, Texas.

Jim loved spending time with family, watching his grandchildren participate in various activities, and traveling around the United States. He was an avid golfer, fisherman, and sports enthusiast.  He served in the U.S. Navy Squadron VT 27, was an IUTIS member for many years serving as a coach and umpire, and was a boy scout and assistant troop leader for Troop 97.  He belonged to The Loyal Order of the Moose and the Shelby County Oaks.  He worked for DP&L for 44 years-the only job he ever had after serving in the navy.  He enjoyed his coworkers and looked forward to going to work every day until he retired in 2009.  Jim was an amazing husband, father, grandfather, and friend. He was a member of Saint Paul's Church.

In keeping with Jim's wishes, there will be no viewing hour, his body will be cremated, and a private burial will be held at a later date.  He requested that any donations to his memory be made to Ohio's Hospice of Miami County.  There will be a Celebration of Life Coffee Hour for family and friends at The Loyal Order of the Moose, 1200 Broadway Ave, Sidney, beginning at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday, December 9th. Arrangements are in the care of Cromes-Edwards Funeral Home, 302 S. Main Ave, Sidney. Condolences may be expressed to the Stewart family at the funeral home's website, www.cromesfh.com
