Dr. Bruce C. Urbanc

DR. BRUCE C. URBANC, 56, of 1809 Burkwood Drive, Sidney, passed away unexpectedly Sunday, May 25, 2008 at 1 p.m. in Cleveland, Oh, while attending a Cleveland Indians game. He was born on July 13, 1951 in Grimsby, England, the son of Elaine (Wallace) Urbanc, who survives and resides in Sidney. On August 12, 1977 he married Holly McGrath who survives, along with a son; Patrick Urbanc of Cleveland, Oh. He was preceded in death by a daughter; Sarah Urbanc. Dr. Urbanc was a 1968 graduate of Saint Edward High School in Lakewood, Oh. He received his B.S. degree in 1974 and M.S. degree in 1976 from John Carroll University. Following his graduation from John Carroll, he attended the Kirksville College of Osteopathic Medicine in Kirksville, Missouri, and became a D.O. in June of 1981. He served his internship at Wright Patt AFB Medical Center from 1981 to 1983, and served as a captain and flight surgeon in the U.S. Air Force. In 1995 He became board certified as a family practitioner. Dr. Urbanc currently served the people of Shelby County as a family practitioner for Primecare Physicians, formerly known as Urbanc & Bosslet D.O. Inc. He dedicated his life to his patients and the healthcare industry. He was a past president of the Shelby County Medical Society, section chief of medicine, chief of medicine, chief of Staff, vice president and member of the board of trustees at Wilson Memorial Hospital, and president and member of the Wilson Memorial Hospital Foundation. He was also affiliated with many nursing homes in the Shelby County area. Upon his death, Dr. Urbanc served as a tissue donor; exemplifying the care he had for those in need. Bruce enjoyed spending time with his family and friends, boating at Indian Lake and going to Cleveland Browns and Indians games. He also enjoyed volunteering his time to Holy Angels School and Lehman Catholic High School. He was a member of Holy Angels Catholic Church. A mass of Christian burial will be held Monday, June 2, 2008 at 10:30 a.m. at Holy Angels Catholic Church with Rev. Gerald E. Bensman officiating. In keeping with his wishes, following the funeral mass Dr. Urbanc's body will be cremated. Friends may call Sunday from 1 to 6 p.m. at the Cromes Funeral Home, 302 S. Main Ave. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorials be made to Holy Angels Tuition Aid Fund, Lehman Catholic High School, and Wilson Hospice Care, in memory of Dr. Bruce C. Urbanc.
