Donald "Don" Sallie

Donald "Don" Sallie, 83, of Sidney, went to be with his Lord and Savior at 5:02 AM Wednesday, June 14, 2017.  He was born on April 13, 1934 in Blue Diamond, KY to the late Howard and Ola (Back) Sallie.

On April 9, 2011 he married Loretta Marie (Jager) Browning, who survives, along with his two daughters, Connie Sallie, and Pamela (Gary) Gibbs, both of Middletown; four step-children, Fred (Brenda) Browning, Jerry (Brenda) Browning, Linda Browning, and Wanda (George) Fahnestock, all of Sidney; two sisters, Clara Gumm of Middletown, Dana (Rich) Woodward of Nebraska; and several grandchildren and great-grandchildren.  He was preceded in death by five siblings. 

Don was a veteran of the United States Army, serving his country for more than 20 years.  He then worked for the former United Telephone Company in Sidney, retiring after more than 20 years of service.  Don enjoyed being in church and bible study.  He read his bible frequently and also enjoyed repairing old bibles for others.  He loved spending time with his wife and taking her to Frisch's every day.  Don was a member of Stokes Masonic Lodge 305 F&AM in Port Jefferson.

Don was a member of Calvary United Baptist Church in Sidney, where a Funeral Service will be held on Friday, June 16, 2017 at 12:00 PM, with Pastor David Shepherd officiating.  Burial with military honors provided by the United States Army will follow at Graceland Cemetery.  The family will receive friends at the church on Friday, from 10:00 AM until the time of service.  Arrangements are in the care of Cromes-Edwards Funeral Home, 302 S.
