C. THOMAS SCHLAGETTER, 86, of Sidney, passed away at 7:45 PM Wednesday, September 27, 2017 at Wilson Health.  He was born on May 17, 1931 in Sidney, Ohio, the son of the late John Joseph and Lulu Caroline (Timmer) Schlagetter.  On December 26, 1952 he married Norma R. Wells at St. John's Lutheran Church in Sidney, where he was a lifelong member. 

Tom is survived by his wife, Norma and children; Elizabeth A. Nabors (Douglas), Douglas W. (Karen), Samuel T. (Martha); grandchildren, Scot T. Nabors (Angela), Joshua F. Schlagetter (Whitney), Erin R. (Nick) Lucchesi, Evan M. Schlagetter, Josephine F. Schlagetter, Erik T. Schlagetter, Tyler J. Schlagetter; great-grandchildren, Wyatt D. and Colton T. Lucchesi, and Reagan B. and Trenton S. Nabors and many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents and siblings Elizabeth Schlagetter, Richard Schlagetter (Genieve), Ruth McMahan (Robert), Janice McGrath (William), Mary Lou Wurstner (Armand), John (Jack) Schlagetter (Roma), and Frank Schlagetter (Sabra).

Tom graduated from Sidney High School in 1949.  He was an excellent athlete excelling in football, basketball, and track and was named 1st team 'all MVC' tight end in 1948.  Following high school Tom attended Bowling Green University where he was a member of the Epsilon-Eta chapter of the Kappa Sigma fraternity.   He then joined the United States Marine Corp spending 23 months in the Panama Canal zone before being honorably discharged in 1954.

Tom was very active in the community.  As a member of the Jaycees he served as President, National Director of U.S. Jaycees, Soap Box Derby director, elected a Jaycee senator and named Outstanding Young Man 30-40 years old in 1964.  He served on the original YMCA board, represented the Jaycees to build the county home, and was the Shelby County Chairman raising money for the Neil Armstrong Air & Space Museum. 
He was a 25 year member of the Mason's, 32° Mason in Scottish Rites in Dayton, Ohio, Antioch Shrine Temple in Dayton, and Past President of the Shelby County Shrine Club.  He also was a lifelong member of the Sidney Elks, Sidney Moose Club, American Legion, American Legion Singing Soldiers, and Western Ohio Division Marine Corp League.

He was a founding member of Sidney's VESPA Club and was Sergeant-at-arms for the 1964 Republican National Convention.  Tom was employed by the Stolle Corporation-Alcoa for 38 years, retiring in 1991.
Tom was an avid golfer shooting his age just five years ago at 81.  He also enjoyed attending his children's and, later, grandchildren's school activities, where he often had to correct the officials on their calls.

A Memorial Service will be held Wednesday, October 4, 2017 at 12:00 PM at St. John's Lutheran Church with Jonathan W. Schriber officiating.  The family will receive friends at the church on Wednesday from 10:00 AM until the time of service.  In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the High School Alumni Scholarship, c/o The Community Foundation of Shelby County The Courtview Center, Suite 202, 100 S.
